Next, the object is placed in sawdust for some time to cool down. This sawdust can produce various effects depending on the glaze. During this phase, a lot of smoke is generated. This smoke colors the unglazed parts and creates the characteristic crackles caused by the temperature shock in matte black. |
After about fifteen minutes, the object is removed from the sawdust and rinsed with water. After cooling down, the object, especially the glazed parts, can be cleaned of any soot residue. The unglazed parts will remain black. |
